How to Use EE Parental Controls for Mobile Phone, Wi-Fi, and TV

You can set up EE Mobile parental controls using the Set Up Safe service by sending a text message or calling EE Mobile. Additionally, you can set controls for EE broadband on the EE website or EE mobile app.

Set Up EE Mobile Parental Controls

Moderate

This mode is enabled by default when browsing using the EE mobile network. Your child can search online and even access social media sites, but they cannot access 18-rated or pornographic sites.

Strict

The Strict mode is a safe setting for children under 13 years. It blocks 18-rated and above PG-rated content. As such, your child cannot access any content on unmoderated social sites and dating sites.

Off

When you set parental controls to off, you will give full access to your child. This mode is not recommended for kids.

There are three ways to set parental controls: moderate or strict.

Via Text

1. Send a “Strict” or “Moderate” text to 879.
2. Restart the phone or turn Airplane Mode On and Off to allow the settings to take effect.

Via Phone

1. Dial 1818 from the EE device you want to apply or remove parental controls.
2. Call 150 from an EE device or 08454 123 662 from any other device.
3. Once you call EE Mobile, restart the device or turn the Airplane Mode On and Off.

Use the EE Mobile Website

You can also set up EE parental controls on the EE website.

1. Visit https://myaccount.ee.co.uk/app/managedevice and log in to your account. You have to be the primary account holder or the bill player.
2. Go to the Navigation Panel, click My EE, and then Manage Device.
3. EE Mobile will open a list of your plan devices. Under the device on which you want to set up parental controls, click Manage Your Device.
   
4. Click Data Content Controls, and click the Moderate or Strict option to set up the appropriate parental controls for your child.

Use the Set Up Safe Service

Set Up Safe blocks adult content and sets up spending caps to prevent children from adding to the monthly bill. EE will help protect your child by providing age-specific packages.

To use Set Up Safe Service:

1. Text “Set Up Safe” to 150 on your child’s EE device.
2. Choose a package based on individual settings or EE’s recommended settings based on the child’s age.
3. The settings are activated by midnight on the same day.
4. Once you Set Up Safe service, a child under 9 years won’t be able to go above the monthly bill, while children from 10 to above 13 cannot go above the set spending caps on an EE child SIM. EE recommends setting a spending cap of £10 above the monthly bill.

Use EE Family Account

EE family account allows multiple lines under one account at a discounted rate. It also gives you a discounted rate for EE broadband.

You need the EE app to set up parental controls on the EE family account.

1. Download the EE app on your Android or iOS device.
2. Open the Wi-Fi controls dashboard.
3. Scroll down to parental controls.
4. Tap Activate Parental Controls.
5. Tap OK when asked whether you want to activate parental controls.

Manage EE Broadband Parental Controls

EE Home broadband, in particular basic, older models like EE Bright Box Wireless Router, uses Norton Family parental control software to set up safe service on a child’s device. You need to download the Norton Family app to block adult content and set up age restrictions.

Note: you must select your parental controls settings before you can browse the web.

To do this, connect your first device to the router and open an internet browser. You have to choose, “I Need Parental Controls.” At this stage only connect 1 device, after signing up you will be able to connect other devices.

Once you have set up the app, Norton Family automatically applies web protection against malicious content, phishing attacks, scams, and fraudulent links. Norton Family also detects and alerts you about security threats if you connect to an unsecured Wi-Fi network.

Smart Hub Plus Parental Controls

Smart Hub Plus is a smart broadband wireless router with the own parental controls through the EE app.

1. Again, download the EE app to switch on Web Protect.
2. Once you have downloaded the app, go to Plans and Subscriptions.
3. Click broadband and then scroll to Web Protect.
4. Switch the toggle next to Web Protect to the On position.
5. Now, go to the Wi-Fi Controls dashboard.
   
6. Scroll down to Parental Controls.
7. You will see a list of the blocked content and sites.
8. Tap on the box next to a site or content to block it.

Pause Wi-Fi

EE has a pause Wi-Fi feature for individual devices.

1. Open the EE app and select Wi-Fi Controls from the dashboard.
2. Choose the device you want to pause Wi-Fi.
3. Tap the toggle button to pause Wi-Fi.

To Schedule Time Off

1. Open the EE app and open Wi-Fi Controls.
2. Scroll to parental controls.
3. Select Add Schedule, then select a device.
4. Name the Schedule and then add the times and dates you want to pause Wi-Fi.

Parental Controls for EE TV

EE TV parental controls allow you to block TV programmes for specific age groups. You need a parental control PIN to apply age restrictions for TV programmes.

1. Go to your remote control, press the Home button, and then choose Settings.
2. Scroll to Parental Controls and choose Change Parental Control PIN.
3. If you have never changed the PIN, the default is 1234.
4. Enter a new PIN and press OK.

To set up parental controls on the EE TV:

1. Press Home on the remote.
2. Go to Settings and press OK.
   
3. Navigate to Restrict Rated Programmes and press OK.
   
4. Enter your Parental Control PIN.
5. It will open the Controls Channels page. On the Restrict Rated Programmes press OK.
   
6. Choose a Rating for example, 15 and over and press OK.

Can a Child ByPass EE Parental Controls?

Children cannot bypass EE parental controls. A child has to call EE to prove their age for EE content lock removal.
