You can explore threads about any topic. It’s a great place to gather context, ask subtle questions, or get insights from long-time locals. Just search for your city or neighborhood to get started.
• Instagram and TikTok: Here, try doing your research using location tags or local hashtags (e.g. #GreenwoodVillage). People often post backyard setups, landmarks, or garden views that match what you’ve seen in person.
• LinkedIn: If you know the occupation of the person you want to learn more about (from a vehicle decal or uniform), in many cases, it’s possible to find them by job title and city. Despite being a professional network, it offers a particular idea about someone’s identity.

Once you join, you can browse posts about local news, lost pets, crime reports, garage sales, business recommendations, or even neighbor introductions. Not only is this a practical thing when you need some advice (let’s say on hiring a good plumber), but it may also give you subtle hints to find out who lives next door, including their names, photos, family updates, or yard events.

Nextdoor promotes neighborhood trust and safety by encouraging transparency and real names (at least compared to anonymous platforms).

One more advantage of this app is that it is well-known and active in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Europe. No matter where you’re moving, you’ll be able to use it in diverse parts of the world. Want to give it a try? Follow these steps:

1. Go to the website https://nextdoor.com/ or download the app (if available in your region).
2. Sign up: enter the required information and agree to the terms and conditions (additionally, you may be asked to pay for the subscription, depending on your plan).
3. Verify your address through suggested methods (postcard verification/phone verification/mobile GPS verification).
4. Set up your profile and enjoy discovering your neighborhood feed.

P.S. Nextdoor has some alternatives like Citizen or Neighbors App by Ring; however, they are mainly designed for safety reasons, focusing on local crime reports, which leaves few options for regular communication.

These kinds of platforms provide various information about a person using their name, phone number, email address, and usernames, in some cases. No matter how much knowledge you have about them, such services will elaborate on them.

The fact is that access to personal information about people is restricted by law in many countries. Still, some services work. We found that Social Catfish may show some information about people worldwide.

For your convenience, we have created a general instruction on such a program’s usage:

1. Choose the service that appeals most to you and visit its website.
2. Sign up by entering your email address and setting a password if required. Note that some platforms charge for their service.
3. Enter the information you have and review the results. Additionally, applying filters can be helpful to narrow the results and improve accuracy.

I decided to try out Social CatFish to show the whole procedure, and the process was exactly as we described above. I opened their page, put the name of the person I wanted to learn about (random, for demonstration), and got my results.

There was a list of people who could match my request, and some preview about them: known locations, other names, gender, etc.

Note: The app asked me some clarifying questions, such as the person’s age, the city they live in, and other details. If it was something I wasn’t aware of, I could skip that part.

Method 4. Use Reverse Image Search

Meanwhile, this function allows doing research using a photo. If you have an image of your neighbor, upload it to the reverse image lookup website, and see where it appears, who it might show, or find similar pictures.

The most accessible way to do this kind of search is through Google Lens: it’s quick and free to use!

1. Open your browser or Google Chrome App and press the photo icon.
   Note: If you’re searching through Safari, to use Google Lens, you will be asked to download the Google App.
   
2. Take or paste a picture from your Photo Library and scroll down to get the findings. Done!
   

My personal experience showed that Google reverse image search on people works better with celebs. Still, there are many other image lookup services online that have proven to be more effective for searching for people by image. Method 5. Get Hints From Street View on Google Maps

Although not an obvious search tool, Google Street View comes in unexpectedly handy for finding out who lives on your road. This method can help you see the exact address if you know only the house appearance, or learn the name on the mailbox if you can’t or don’t want to do it physically.

Based on the device you’re searching from, follow these steps:

Computer:

1. Search for Google Maps, open it, and put in your address.
   
2. Drag Pegman (an orange figure) to a place on the map. Adjust it and “look around” yourself to get the needed data.
   

iPhone and Android:

1. Open the Google Maps App on your device.
2. Search for a place or drop a pin on the map. To drop a pin, touch and hold a place on the map.
3. Tap the thumbnail with a Street View icon (360° arrow). When you’re done, at the top left, tap Back (left arrow).

! The following methods presented will be strictly US-based. Check for alternatives in your country.

Method 6. Access County or City Property Records (US-based)

It is very common for counties and cities in the United States to have public databases that contain detailed information about real estate properties (within their jurisdiction) and their ownership. Thus, it’s likely that you will be able to get information about your neighborhood inhabitants there.

• To use this method, first go to Google (or any other browser) and search for:
  “[Your city/county] property records” ( e.g., Los Angeles County records);
• Then, open the official website (usually ends with .gov);

• After that, enter the address or AIN (Assessor’s Identification Number) of the house you want to learn about in the appropriate tab;

• Choose the one that applies to you, and that’s it;

Note: I didn’t get any personal information about who lives at a property from this report; however, it was full of data about the house and land it’s located on.

Method 7. See Reverse Address Lookup Tools (US-based)

These platforms help to find out who lives at a certain address. The general guide is as follows:

1. Choose your tool: Whitepages, Ownerly, or NeighborWho. We used the first one as an example.
2. Enter an address, accept the terms and conditions, and view the results with names of residents on your street.
   Note: I chose a commercial address for testing purposes.
3. Choose (or search for) the one that matches your request to find out who lives in a house. In case you want to get a full report, paid versions are available.
   

Note: These steps can be taken with any platform; however, some may have more limitations regarding free plans and/or require logging in. Generally, paid services like Intelius provide more information, so take that into consideration.

Nothing Seems to Work?

Don’t worry! Even if you’ve tried everything and still didn’t get what you need, there are still some things we recommend doing:

• if you know their name, put it into Google Search. Yes, it might seem hopeless, but you never know what will pop up. Trying won’t hurt!
• in case you don’t know the name, it may be written on the mailbox. Go and check it!
• if they have a branded vehicle or clothes marked by a company, contact this organization; they might be willing to help;
• ask other people about your neighbors;
• finally, talk to this person, here goes nothing!
